On Thursday 8th February 2018, 25 chaplains attended the NIHCA training day in the Iona Carmelite Retreat Centre, Termonbacca, Derry/Londonderry. The theme for the day was "An introduction to dementia awareness and support." The morning session was facilitated by Carla Mulholland, Alzheimer's Society NI, Dementia Friendly Community Support Manager S&W NI. The afternoon session was facilitated by Michael McMillan, Chaplaincy Volunteer Belfast Trust, who is presently studying for his PhD on the topic, "The Role of the Church in the Care of People living with Dementia in Nursing and Residential Homes.
